Ed Schlehuber is an Inductee to
The American Morgan Horse Club's Hall of Fame
Ed Schlehuber will always be in the hearts of those who knew him.  He was a generous, kind, hardworking man who adored and loved the Morgan Horse.  In fact, second to his wife, Dodie, and daughters, Linda and Kathy, his next best friend was his Morgan Stallion, Welmore Zorro.
As soon as Ed became a member of the San Diego Morgan Club, which was back in the late 1960's, the wheels started turning and the Diamond Jubilee was soon under way.  His dream became a reality in 1971 and the first Diamond Jubilee Morgan show was a great success.  Ed was elected President of the San Diego Club for 8 consecutive years.  Toward the end of those 8 years, he also became President of the Region VII area for the National Morgan Club.  Throughout this time, and for many years thereafter, the majority of his free time was spent promoting this horse show, and his love for the Morgan Horse.
Soon after Walt Disney's "Justin Morgan Had a Horse" was aired on television, Ed purchased rights to show the film.  He donated the film showings to many grammar schools throughout San Diego County.  Ed organized a special program for school assemblies.  The children not only learned a part of our American History, they also were introduced to the Morgan Horse.  After the showing of the film the children touched and saw the Morgan in real life.  Ed brought 3-4 of his champion Morgans onto the school playgrounds and demonstrated the versatility of this great breed of horse.  His best friend, Welmore Zorro, was always the star, dropping his head right into hundreds of tiny hands reaching to pet him.  This stallion was remarkable, and loved the children as much as Ed loved sharing him.
Ed became well known in the San Diego area showing and promoting Morgans.  There were many places other than the schools that he was seen with his Morgans.  There were rest homes, the signing of Margurite Henry's book, "Justin Morgan Had a Horse", at John Cole's bookstore on Prospect Street in La Jolla, California, demonstrations for the March of Dimes, the Cancer Society with the Standardbreds on the Del Mar Race Track, Ed took Zorro down into the San Diego Sports Arena, hitting the bottom of a very slippery concrete ramp at a full trot, at speed, circling the 3 ring Barnum-Bailey Circus and receiving a standing ovation from the crowd; Region VII meeting and banquet held in San Diego, at Shelter Island; AMHA President Lawrence Apply was greeting and applauding Ed and his Morgans in a large open lot across the street from the Sheraton Hotel near the San Diego Airport.  There were also many displays placed in the lobbies of large downtown San Diego bank buildings and several other areas of San Diego.  The displays contained pictures, Show Horse Equipment and Show Carts along with brochures and gave the public all sorts of information about the Morgan Horse.
Ed and his family have owned many Morgan champions;Horses such as 'Zorro', San De Glenn R, Merridell of Mulmur, Ramona Warrior, Clayton Nick and many others.  One of Ed's most respected and dearest friends, is a man who is one of the Greatest Horse Trainers ever, Bill Chambers.   Bill made most of  the Champions in Ed's Barn!!
Ed's wife Dodie will always be remembered for her love of the Morgan Horse and hard work.  She worked right along side Ed in the San Diego Morgan Horse Club for years.  She will always be known for her Mink Coat and her Black Poodle Pepsi at all the shows.  She loved to be  up in the stands cheering for Welmore Manor Morgans and all of the wonderful friends made through out the years in the show ring.   We miss you both a lot !!!!
